The UC Davis Police Department currently hosts workshops presenting to the members of the campus community strategies to increase the likelihood of surviving an active shooter. The presentation will cover the five steps for increasing your chances of surviving an active shooter:

  • Escape
  • Cover
  • Hide
  • Play dead
  • Attack the attacker (last resort)

The presentation also provides demonstrations for attacking the attacker including handgun takeaway, the need for the community to pre-plan and how to identify an active incident safe space in the campus environment. Other topics covered include:

  • The will to survive
  • Identify Police Department capabilities
  • The shift from the 4C’s (Contain, Control, Communicate, Call S.W.A.T.)
  • Weapon identification for the community
